Why does Cabba call Vegeta his master?

The essentials in 30 seconds

Cabba calls Vegeta his master because the prince teaches him how to become Super Saiyan during the tournament between Universes 6 and 7. Vegeta willingly plays the villain and threatens the planet Sadala to provoke his anger. Cabba transforms, understands the Saiyan pride that Vegeta wants to transmit to him and then shows him deep respect. This bond remains that of a mentor and a willing student: Vegeta does not train him daily.

Cabba and Vegeta's relationship begins in an official fight, but it quickly surpasses the outcome of the match. Vegeta recognizes in the young Saiyan of Universe 6 strength, honesty and an attachment to the planet Sadala. Cabba, for his part, discovers a rough prince who uses provocation to teach him what none of his compatriots have yet mastered.

Warning: This article reveals the tournament between Universes 6 and 7 as well as the Tournament of Power. The initial encounter exists in the Dragon Ball Super manga and anime with the same principle. Cabba's further development, notably his transition to Super Saiyan 2, is mainly highlighted in the anime.

Who is Cabba, the young Saiyan from Universe 6?

Cabba is a Saiyan from the planet Sadala in Universe 6. Unlike the Universe 7 Saiyans known in the past, his people do not conquer worlds to sell them. Its warriors earn their living by protecting populations and neutralizing criminals. Cabba is serious, polite and sincerely attached to this mission.

He has a thin body which surprises Vegeta, accustomed to associating Saiyan power with more massive physiques. This appearance does not mean he is weak. Cabba is chosen by Champa to represent Universe 6 in the tournament between the two universes and shows technical mastery capable of retaining the prince's attention.

The Saiyans of Universe 6 still live on Sadala and no longer have tails. Cabba does not know the Super Saiyan before his duel against Vegeta. Their civilization therefore followed an evolution different from that of the Saiyans of Universe 7, whose original planet Sadala disappeared before their installation on the planet Vegeta.

This difference fascinates Vegeta. Cabba tells him about the king of Sadala, whom he deeply respects. The prince thus discovers a version of his people who have retained a planet, an organization and a protective function. His interest is not only that of a fighter looking for a rival: it touches on the heritage he has lost.

The article on the organization of the Universe 6 and 7 tournament replaces Cabba's selection. The file on the name Kakarot used by Vegeta already shows the importance that the prince gives to Saiyan identity.

The Vegeta Dragon Ball collection allows us to follow his transition from conqueror to mentor. The Dragon Ball figurine collection offers a broader framework to bring together fighters from both universes.

How do Cabba and Vegeta come face to face?

Champa and Beerus organize a tournament to decide between their worlds. Cabba joins the Universe 6 team; Vegeta represents Universe 7. When their turn arrives, the two Saiyans begin by exchanging blows in their normal form.

Vegeta notices that Cabba's movements resemble his own. The young fighter does not have his power, but his style confirms a kinship between their peoples. Cabba's outfit is also reminiscent of ancient Saiyan armor, predating the models associated with Frieza's Force.

The prince then asks him to become Super Saiyan. Cabba admits that he doesn't know how to do it and asks Vegeta to teach him. This frankness changes the duel into an improvised lesson. Vegeta could have just won; he decides to bring about a transformation which will give Universe 6 a new heritage.

The request also reveals the distance between the two civilizations. In Universe 7, Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks and Goten have already mastered this form. On Sadala, Cabba does not yet know the mechanism. The guide on the golden hair of the Super Saiyan explains the visual code that Cabba will discover.

Vegeta does not employ a gentle method or a long training session. He knows that the first awakening can arise from quite strong anger in an already powerful Saiyan. He therefore chooses to attack Cabba's deepest attachment: his planet and his loved ones.

The collection Son Goku recalls the first Saiyan in the story to transform extreme anger into golden form. The collection Broly Dragon Ball offers another example where power and emotion are linked, without reproducing the precise teaching received by Cabba.

Why does Vegeta threaten to destroy Planet Sadala?

Vegeta hits Cabba, humiliates him and claims that after the tournament he will go to Sadala to kill his loved ones and destroy the planet. He willingly plays the role of the cruel conqueror that his former self could have played. Its goal is to arouse anger intense enough to trigger the Super Saiyan.

The threat works because Cabba fights to protect. His rage does not come only from wounded pride: he imagines his home and the king of Sadala attacked. His energy explodes, his hair turns golden and he faces Vegeta with new strength.

This method is brutal. Vegeta does not ask Cabba's permission before manipulating his emotion and makes him believe for a few moments that his planet is in danger. The story presents it as a warrior's pedagogy, not as a universal model of teaching.

Once the transformation is achieved, Vegeta reveals his intention and demands that Cabba never forget his Saiyan pride. He does not seek to destroy Sadala; he wants the young man to have the power to defend her. The provocation ceases as soon as the lesson has had its effect.

Goku's first awakening, detailed in the article on his transformation against Frieza, is born from a real loss. Vegeta creates a fictitious threat for Cabba in order to mobilize a comparable emotion: Krillin's death really takes place on Namek, while Sadala is never attacked in this duel.

Why does Cabba then call Vegeta his master?

Vegeta is the first person to actually transmit Super Saiyan to him. He doesn't just explain a posture to him: he identifies the emotional barrier, forces him to overcome it and teaches him a central value in his eyes, the pride of the Saiyan people. For Cabba, this intervention is enough to create a debt of discipleship.

The word “master” above all expresses respect. Cabba admires Vegeta's power, but also his demands. The prince refuses to let him give up or accept his weakness. Even when Cabba successfully transforms, Vegeta goes Super Saiyan Blue and knocks him out of the tournament in one fell swoop, serving as a reminder of how far he still has to go.

This defeat does not destroy the link. Cabba understands that Vegeta made him progress instead of humiliating him for free. He adopts the attitude of a disciple and wishes to show him his future progress. Vegeta responds with his usual harshness, while implicitly acknowledging the relationship.

However, it is not a daily learning experience comparable to that of Goku with Master Roshi or Gohan with Piccolo. Cabba returns to his universe. Vegeta does not provide him with a regular schedule, does not live on Sadala, and does not supervise every fight. “Master” describes a founding transmission and a moral bond.

Vegeta's family background helps to understand this evolution. The article on his rapprochement with Bulma shows how it gradually attaches to the Earth. Training Cabba allows him to use his pride to build something, not just dominate.

The Injured Super Saiyan 2 Gohan figurine recalls another transmission relationship. Gohan receives many masters and surpasses Goku against Cell; Cabba receives from Vegeta a first key to Super Saiyan. The routes are not identical.

Why does Vegeta want to visit Planet Sadala?

Cabba offers to introduce Vegeta to the king of Sadala. The prince accepts the idea and expresses his interest in the planet. In his universe, the first Sadala was destroyed; the Saiyans settled on the planet which would take the name of Vegeta, before Frieza in turn annihilated it.

Visiting Sadala would therefore represent more than a tourist trip. Vegeta could see a living Saiyan civilization, structured around protective missions. He would meet a king Cabba is loyal to and discover what his own people could have become without Frieza's empire.

This promise explains the depth of his interest in Cabba. The young Saiyan is not only a gifted student; it is a link with a lost collective identity. By demanding that he retain his pride, Vegeta is indirectly protecting a legacy he thought was lost.

However, the prince does not give up his place. He remains proud to be the royal heir of Universe 7 and wants Cabba to surpass him in effort. Their relationship does not transform Cabba into a political subordinate, nor Vegeta into the king of Universe 6.

The article on learning Caulifla quickly shows how Cabba in turn transmits the golden form. He thus becomes a relay: Vegeta teaches him, then Cabba brings this knowledge to other Saiyans in Sadala.

The collection Piccolo Dragon Ball allows you to compare a mentor who is much more present in the life of his student. The collection Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu recalls the threats that shaped Vegeta before he could play this role with Cabba.

How do the manga and anime develop their relationship?

The tournament between Universes 6 and 7 retains the essential core in both versions: Cabba does not know the Super Saiyan, Vegeta provokes his anger by threatening Sadala, the young man transforms and recognizes the prince as his mentor. Exact dialogue and combat pacing may vary.

The anime further develops Cabba during the Tournament of Power. He protects Caulifla and Kale, faces several adversaries and remembers his promise to Vegeta. Facing Monna, he reached Super Saiyan 2 after encouragement from the prince. This progression explicitly strengthens the teacher-student bond.

The Tournament of Power manga is tighter and does not exactly reproduce all of these stages. It is therefore not necessary to use each scene from the anime to describe in detail Cabba's journey in the manga. The two continuities share the founding encounter, then organize the subsequent fights differently.

In the anime, Vegeta also promises that he will use the Super Dragon Balls to restore Universe 6 if he wins, in order to preserve Cabba and Sadala. This determination shows that the relationship has become reciprocal: Cabba admires his master, and Vegeta assumes a responsibility towards his student.

The Tournament of Power nevertheless puts all participants in competition for the survival of their universe. Frieza eliminates Cabba after his fight. The article on Frieza's alliance with Goku against Jiren explains why the tyrant then fights in the Universe 7 team without becoming altruistic. The one on Jiren's refusal to trust offers a contrast with the transmission between Cabba and Vegeta.

A Black Goku Rosé figurine with scythe belongs to the arc that separates the two major tournaments in the anime. It can serve as a chronological marker in the window, but Black Goku does not intervene in Cabba's learning.

Broly extends the exploration of Super Saiyans beyond tournaments. This is yet another trajectory, without a teacher-student link with Cabba.

Objective He orders him to become stronger No daily workouts are shown
Legacy He values the people of Sadala He does not rule Universe 6

Frequently asked questions

Is Vegeta officially Cabba's master?

Cabba considers him and calls him as such because he taught him Super Saiyan and passed on his concept of pride. There is, however, no formal school or daily training shown between them.

Did Vegeta really want to destroy Sadala?

No. He invents this threat to anger Cabba. Once the transformation is obtained, he reveals his lesson and on the contrary shows his interest in the planet and its king.

Is Cabba stronger than Vegeta after his transformation?

No. The Super Saiyan greatly improves Cabba, but Vegeta maintains a huge lead. He then uses Super Saiyan Blue and ends the match with one hit.

Is Cabba learning Super Saiyan 2?

In the anime, yes: he achieves this form during the Tournament of Power, encouraged by Vegeta. The manga organizes this tournament differently and does not develop this progression in the same way.

Does Vegeta finally visit Planet Sadala?

He expresses a desire to visit her and Cabba wants to present him to the king. In the events covered here, this encounter remains an important promise rather than a journey recounted at length.

In summary

Cabba calls Vegeta his master because the prince turns their duel into a lesson. By fictitiously threatening Sadala, Vegeta provokes the protective anger which allows the young Saiyan to reach Super Saiyan. Cabba then understands that this brutality was intended to convey power and pride to him. Their relationship is not a daily apprenticeship, but a lasting bond of mentor and disciple. It also gives Vegeta symbolic access to a living and protective Saiyan civilization.
