How does the Red Ribbon Army return to Super Hero?
The essentials in 30 seconds
In Super Hero, the Red Ribbon Army returns under the leadership of Magenta, son of Commander Red, with a company serving as a front. Magenta recruits Doctor Hedo, descendant of Doctor Gero, into believing that Capsule Corporation runs an evil organization. Hedo creates Gamma 1, Gamma 2 and Cell Max. The plan falls apart when the Gammas figure out the manipulation and Magenta activates Cell Max too soon.
The Red Ribbon has never completely disappeared from Dragon Ball history. Goku destroys his army when he is a child, but Doctor Gero then continues his work through the cyborgs and Cell. Super Hero shows a third generation: a business structure, a vengeful heir and a gifted new scientist.
Warning: This guide reveals the entire Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film and its adaptation into the Dragon Ball Super manga. The manga adds a prologue focused on Goten, Trunks and Doctor Hedo; the film begins more directly with the recruitment of the scientist.
What remains of the Red Ribbon Army after Goku and Cell?
As a child, Goku attacks the Red Ribbon headquarters alone and destroys its chain of command. Commander Red, Officer Black and their troops stop building a world army. However, the defeat does not remove their money, their ideology, or Dr. Gero's research.
Gero acts years later as a revenge-obsessed survivor. He transforms humans into C-17 and C-18, creates C-19, and prepares Cell from collected cells. The cyborg arc is therefore already a first return of the Red Ribbon in a scientific form.
Super Hero doesn't literally resurrect old soldiers. Magenta inherits the name, the resources and the domination project. His company makes the organization look respectable and allows it to secretly finance a new generation of weapons.
The C-17/C-18 comparison reminds us that Gero's creations are not all identical robots. Cell's Knowledge Guide explains the ancient collection process that the Cell Max project does not exactly reproduce.
The Dragon Ball figurine collection allows us to follow these successive eras. The Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu collection places the original Cell in the previous generation of conflict.
How does Magenta rebuild the Red Ribbon?
Magenta is Commander Red's son. He runs a business that serves as a front and dreams of taking over his father's project. His second in command, Carmine, gathers information on Earth's warriors and helps frame Capsule Corporation as the central enemy.
This strategy takes into account the modern world. An army in uniform would quickly be spotted; a wealthy company can pay for a laboratory, recruit staff and produce reassuring communication. The RR logo remains visible, but the power is hidden behind an economic structure.
Magenta harbors a grudge against Capsule Corporation, whose technology, wealth, and ties to Goku threaten her ambitions. He transforms real facts into a false story: yes, Bulma knows extremely powerful aliens; no, that doesn't prove she's leading a plot to take over Earth.
His plan depends on a scientist who can outsmart Gero. He chooses Hedo, a young genius passionate about superheroes and linked to this lineage. Magenta himself does not possess the skill necessary to build the Gammas or finish off Cell Max.
The Son Goku collection reminiscent of the boy who destroyed the original army. The Vegeta collection shows one of the powerful allies that Magenta misrepresents as a member of an enemy organization.
Why does Doctor Hedo agree to work for Magenta?
Hedo is a genius in biology and cyborgs, but he does not spontaneously embrace the cruelty of the Red Ribbon. He loves heroic figures and wants to create spectacular defenders. Magenta exploits this passion rather than honestly presenting a plan for conquest.
He claims that Capsule Corporation and its allies constitute a dangerous secret society. Images of Piccolo, Gohan, Goku and Vegeta become supposed proof. Hedo thus agrees to design Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 while thinking of arming heroes against invaders.
Funding and laboratory also matter. Magenta gives scientists the means to carry out projects on a scale that would be inaccessible alone. Their alliance is therefore based on three levers: moral lie, scientific ambition and resources.
The manga adds a step before this recruitment. Goten and Trunks, under their identities Saiyaman X1 and X2, confront Hedo's creations and contribute to his arrest. After his sentence, the Red Ribbon contacted him. The film does not develop this prologue.
Hedo maintains safeguards. He knows that Cell Max's control program is not ready and refuses to activate it. He also placed Hachimaru, a small creation, in his service. When Magenta attempts the final activation, Hedo actually opposes him.
The Guide to Creating Cell Max distinguishes Gero's inherited plans from Hedo's own work. The Piccolo collection recalls the one who infiltrates the base and discovers the manipulation.
Why do Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 think they are on the side of the heroes?
The Gamma have appearances, poses and visual effects inspired by the superheroes Hedo admires. Their initial moral comes from the data and narrative provided by their creators. They don't see Gohan and Piccolo as saviors, but as members of a network threatening the planet.
Gamma 2 attacks Piccolo, believing he is neutralizing an evil target. Piccolo fakes his defeat, follows him to the base and steals a uniform. This infiltration allows him to hear the full plan and understand that the new cyborgs are deluded rather than inherently cruel.
Pan's kidnapping becomes the trap intended to bring in Gohan. Piccolo takes the place of a soldier and transforms the plan into an improvised training: Pan cooperates and feigns fear in order to awaken his father's protective instinct.
When the Gammas see Magenta and Carmine's behavior, their certainties are cracked. They notice that the so-called bad guys are protecting a child, while their leaders order shooting. They then choose to stop the fight and understand the truth.
The article on Orange Piccolo details the transformation that turns the duel on its head. The guide to Gohan Beast explains the final awakening later caused by Cell Max.
The Injured Super Saiyan 2 Gohan figurine recalls that Gohan's protective anger already existed against Cell. Super Hero reactivates it in a new family context.
How does activating Cell Max destroy Magenta's plan?
Cell Max is designed as the ultimate weapon of the new Red Ribbon. His gigantic body is ready, but Hedo explains that his control system still needs time. Activating it too early means unleashing power without stable tactical intelligence.
After the Gamma's reversal and Piccolo's transformation, Magenta understands that her organization will lose. He joins the underground laboratory and triggers Cell Max despite Hedo's opposition. Hachimaru poisons her, but Magenta manages to press the command before dying.
The giant attacks without distinguishing between allies and adversaries. Gamma 1, Gamma 2, Piccolo, Gohan, C-18, Krillin, Goten and Trunks must cooperate. The Red Ribbon therefore obtains the opposite of the control sought: its own weapon unites those it wanted to divide.
Gamma 2 sacrifices himself in an all-out attack that damages Cell Max without destroying him. Piccolo then immobilizes the giant and Gohan Beast targets his weak point in the head with the Makankosappo. The project ends up being defeated by the heroes and Hedo's creations.
Cell Max is not the original Cell come back to life. It takes a visual basis and works from Gero, but does not have the memories, language or personality of the Cell Game fighter. The Cell Game guide shows precisely what the giant lacks: the strategic pride and taste for the perfect Cell duel.
Gohan's role also changes. As a child, he faced Cell because Goku understood that his potential could exceed that of everyone else. As an adult, he enters the base to save Pan, then finds decisive power in front of Piccolo. The guide to Gohan's first duel against Cell allows us to compare a responsibility imposed by his father to a protective reaction that he chooses as a parent.
This repetition does not cancel the previous development. Super Hero deliberately takes up the image of Gohan's anger, but surrounds it with a new generation: Pan participates in the plan, Piccolo acts as master and the Gamma themselves discover which side deserves the name hero.
The broly collection allows us to compare a power that can lose control, without confusing Broly, being sentient, with a biological weapon released before the completion of its program.
What are the differences between the Super Hero film and the manga?
The film presents the story as an adventure centered around Piccolo, Gohan and Pan. Goku and Vegeta are training on Beerus' planet and cannot be reached. The return of the Red Ribbon is explained at the beginning by Magenta and Carmine.
The Dragon Ball Super manga adds a prequel arc with Goten and Trunks as Saiyaman X1 and X2. They investigate cyborgs, confront Hedo and help arrest him. This version gives Magenta's recruitment a more detailed temporal context.
The manga adaptation then retains the main stages of the film, with adjustments to combat and the presence of the characters. In both versions, Hedo is manipulated, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 switch sides, Magenta activates Cell Max too early and Gohan eliminates him.
After the battle, Hedo and Gamma 1 join Capsule Corporation. This outcome ironically completes Magenta's plan: the talents he wanted to turn against Bulma ultimately strengthen his business.
The return of the Red Ribbon is therefore institutional, not supernatural. No wish resurrects Commander Red or Gero. Heirs use their name, their resources and their work. The story of C-18 and Krillin already reminds us that a creation from Gero can reject the intended role and choose its own links.
The Black Goku Rosé figurine with scythe recalls another threat based on a hijacked identity. Magenta diverts the image of the heroes; Zamasu directly hijacks Goku's body.
Frequently asked questions
Is Magenta Commander Red?
No. He is her son and takes up her ambition. The return is based on a family and financial legacy, not on the resurrection of the founder.
Does Hedo know that Capsule Corporation is innocent?
At first, no. Magenta presents Bulma's allies as an evil organization. Hedo gradually understands that the Gamma have been sent against the real heroes.
Are Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 bad?
They were deceived. Their heroic ideal leads them to change sides when they observe the methods of the Red Ribbon.
Is Cell Max the resurrected tournament Cell?
No. This is a new weapon designed by Hedo from a project linked to Gero's work. He doesn't have the perfect Cell personality.
Why is Cell Max out of control?
Magenta activates it before its control program is completed. His physical power is ready, but his behavior is not.
In summary
The Red Ribbon Army returns thanks to Magenta, heir to Commander Red, who finances a new organization behind a commercial facade. He recruits Doctor Hedo by making him believe that Capsule Corporation represents a threat and obtains Gamma 1, Gamma 2 then Cell Max. Piccolo infiltrates the base, turns Pan's fake kidnapping into a trap and helps the Gamma see the truth. Cornered, Magenta activates Cell Max before her control completes, causing her own defeat. The film directly recounts this return; the manga adds Goten and Trunks' investigation before recruitment. In both versions, Gero's legacy returns, but his new creations end up fighting the army that commanded them.
